Generation Green Page 1 of 2
GENER.A~TI011T GREEIIT
"A PROMISE TO OUR NEXT GENERATION TO
CONSERVE ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES IN OUR COMMUNITY"
Generation Green is a voluntary initiative which promotes the conservation of energy and natural
resources in Oakdale. Energy efficient buildings, recycling measures, and the use of alternative
energy sources are all ways to reduce the use of energy and resources. The Generation Green
program highlights steps business can take to become advocates for an environmentally friendly
community and energy conservation.
How to Participate: Generation Green has two simple stages. The first stage is to perform a
Commercial Plan Energy Review and to exceed standards by 20% or to consult with "Energy
Assets" of Xcel Energy. The second stage is to select from ten initiatives designed to conserve
energy and resources. New businesses need to meet six initiatives while existing businesses need
to complete five.
Benefits to Generation Green members:
* Your business will be featured on the city's website, in the Oakdale Update newsletter, and on
the Oakdale Update cable program.
* Your business will be presented a plaque from the Oakdale mayor.
* Your building permit fee will be reduced by 15%.
* By incorporating a 30% energy savings into a new building design, the modifications typically
pay for themselves within 1-1/2 years.
* By incorporating a 30% energy savings into a standard building design, ten pounds of
greenhouse gases are eliminated each year.
STAGE 1 Select one of the following:
Perform a Commercial Plan Check Energy Review. Exceed standards by 20%
-OR-
Consult "Energy Assets" from Xcel Energy. Call 1-800-481-4700 and ask for sales representative
(free program with rebates available)
STAGE 2 New businesses perform 6 and existing businesses perform 5 of the following
steps:
* Provide a creative landscape design (i.e. native plantings, wildflowers or other indigenous
materials) which promotes a natural setting.
* Use of an alternative or unique energy device (mutual agreement)
* Provide conservation measures relating to lighting
* Supply contract or other evidence showing construction materials will be recycled to the
maximum amount feasible.
* Provide bike racks, showers, and a locker room, or other similar accommodations for those
wishing to use alternative forms of transportation.
* Use of building materials of apost-consumer recycled content.
* Through innovative design, reduce the amount of impervious surface area.
* Agree to use phosphorus-free fertilizer.
* Other (specific project to be negotiated).
file://LT:\Web%20Page\Form-Generationgreen.htm 12/30/2005
