Ji
E~ .~ REQUEST FOR ACTION
River
To Item Number
City Council 3.4.
Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by
Consent June 2, 2008 Terre Maurer, Public ~i'orlcs Director
Item Description Reviewed by
Fresh ~1ir hschanger for the Street Division's Storage Building Tim Sisnon, Finance Director
Reviewed by
Lori ohnson, City ~dministtator
Action Requested
hhe Citv Council is requested to authorize the expenditure of up to x'18,000 far the installation
and design of a fresh air exchange system Eor the storage building at die Street Division.
Background/Discussion
r~s we have attempted to close out the original building permit for the storage building at the
Street Di~dsion, it has come to our attention that the building needs to have a fresh air exchange
system due to the fact that vehicle engines arc often run inside die building as they enter and
leave.
I have worked with a group consisturg of M & l'. Mechanical F:ngineets, Yale Mechanical
Contracting, Butch Pelar-ski from the Building IVlaintenance Division, Vlaxk Thompson from die
Street Division, and Denny:lnderson from the Building Inspection Division, in an attempt to
come up with the most cost-effective way to meet this requirement. By all of us working
together, we have come up with a design that is acceptable. Implementation of that design is
proposed to be accomplished by the City purchasing the exhaust fan and C.O. monitor directly an
having the Building Maintenance Division do as much of the work as possible There will need to
be an electrical contactor, a mechanical contractor, and a garage door contractor utilized at
certain parts of the construction. Butch has priced the pieces of equipment and estimated the
number of davs that he will need contractors to assist in the fugal hookup o£ the equipment.
Based on Butch's projections, it is estimated that the installation and equipment will cost
approximately 514,000. The mechanical design, which was necessarq to meet the building permit
requirement, was approximately 53,500. Therefore, the total coatis estimated at $17,500.
Financial Impact
I have kept Tirn Simon, Finance Director, updated on this issue from the very beginning. This is
anon-budgeted expense. I-Te reconunends that the fmancuig of this project come from the
Govermnent Building Rescrce Fund, which is used for city building repair and maintenance
expenses.
Attachments
None
