ZERWAS, CHIEF OF POLICE .-~- <br />~1k :. ~ , <br />River Date: MARCH 31, 1995 "'~ <br />Police Department Subjeet: TOBACCO COMPLIANCE CHECKS <br />This is to inform the City Council that the Elk River Police <br />Department and the Sherburne County Public Health Department <br />conducted a tobacco compliance check. This compliance check was <br />mandated by the State of Minnesota. <br />With the assistance of several juveniles, who lived in other <br />areas of Sherburne County, all licensed businesses in Elk River <br />were contacted to see if they would sell tobacco products to <br />minors. <br />Of the twenty (20) businesses contacted, twelve (12) businesses <br />denied the sale of tobacco products to minors and eight (8) sold <br />tobacco products to minors. <br />We sent a letter to all businesses, who denied the sale to <br />minors, congratulating them on their efforts. For those that <br />were not in compliance and sold tobacco products to minors, we <br />advised them of the illegal sale and put them on notice for this <br />violation. They were also informed that further compliance <br />• checks would be conducted and those establishments that didn't <br />comply could face criminal charges. <br />If you have any questions or comments in regards to this <br />compliance check, please give me a call. <br />• <br />13065 Orono Parkway • P.O.
