West, Fire Chief <br /> <br />Monday, March 12, 2001 <br /> <br />Addition of Firefighters <br /> <br />The Elk River Fire Department is requesting Council approval to advertise for <br />the addition of two firefighters due to the resignation of one past firefighter <br />member, and pending resignation of a second firefighter member. As the <br />result of the two firefighter resignations, our fire department will be two <br />firefighters short of our full roster of 35 paid-on-call firefighters. <br /> <br />The firefighter resignations involve Ralph Barsody, a 20 year member of the <br />Elk River Fire Department who resigned on January 31, 2001. Randy Sykes, <br />also will become a 20 year member and has submitted his letter of resignation <br />effective May 5, 2001. At this time I would like to thank both members for <br />their dedication and commitment to the citizens of the community and the Elk <br />River Fire Department. <br /> <br />With the approval of the City Council to add two new firefighters to the <br />department, we will start the process of advertising for the two positions of <br />paid-on-call firefighters for the department. <br /> <br />I anticipate the process of hiring new firefighters to take approximately three <br />months with the screening of applications, interviewing potential applicants, <br />returning to the council with the names of the potential candidates, <br />firefighters physicals and stress tests. I will be in attendance at the <br />March 12, 2001 council meeting to answer any questions in reference to the <br />addition of firefighter candidates for the Elk River Fire Department.
