ccy "r
Elk .-.-. REQUEST FO R ACTIO N
River
To Item Number
Ma or and Ci Council 3.3.
Agenda Section
Consent Meeting Date
A xil ]4, 2008 Prepared by
effre A. Beahen, Chief of Police
Item Description Reviewed by
Request for out of State Travel

Reviewed by
Action Requested
Requesting permission to attend and present at an out of state conference on May 6-9, 2008. The
conference is in Nashville.
Background/Discussion
In January of this year, I co-submitted a request to present our records management and software
solutions as an example of efficiency in modern law enforcement at the International Association of
Chiefs of Police 32nd Annual Law Enforcement Information Management Training Conference and
Exposition held in Nashville, Tennessee.
The IACP called fox submissions from law enforcement agencies from all over to present their
information management solutions to attendees from all over the world. There were ]34 agencies who
submitted presentations, and only eighteen were chosen to be presented. The Elk River records system
was one of those eighteen.
Elk River will be co-presenting an entire afternoon fox three days during the conference. Our co-
pxesentex is the University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi Automated System Project, directed by
Julian Allen, Ph.D. The umbrella title for the two complimentary presentations is "Information Sharing:
From Paperless Operations to State/Regional/National Connectivity."
Our solutions and records management system will be demonstrated to over 500 information technology
professionals in the law enforcement field, from agencies of all sizes who also represent professionals
from at least five other countries. The prestige of being selected for presenting at this conference is
unmatched by any previous accomplishments here at the police department It is an honor that place Elk
River on the map, not just regionally, but on an international level as well.
Financial Impact
As a presenter, the registration of $350 for the conference is waived. Airfare is $378, and the hotel
accommodations axe $99 a night, three nights stay would be required. The total cost with meals should be
around $725. Although this conference was not anticipated in planning our 2008 budget, adjustments can
be made to our training budget to accommodate this event.
C:\Usexs\jbenhen\Deskrop\Action Reyuested.doc
