**ITEM 4.7.** <br />• <br />City of <br />Eli <br />'° PROCLAMATION <br />River f~r <br />CROP WALK DAY <br />WHEREAS, at the end of World War II many Christians wanted to share <br />America's abundance with European war victims; and CROP <br />and Church World Service's first purpose was to gather wheat <br />and other crops from American farms for shipment to Europe; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, over the years Church World Service/CROP has increased its <br />urban appeals while remaining in contact with its rural <br />constituents; and, <br />WHEREAS, Church World Service/CROP has moved from primarily <br />providing resources for emergency relief to supporting long- <br />. range self-help programs emphasizing agricultural <br />development, appropriate technology, water resource <br />development, and primary health care; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Annual CROP Walk will be held on April 23, 1995, in <br />support of this organization to help our community become <br />aware of and concerned about hunger and its causes and its <br />effects on all of us; and, <br />WHEREAS, the CROP Walk will raise funds to help stop hunger both <br />locally and globally. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Henry A. Duitsman, Mayor of Elk River, do hereby <br />proclaim Sunday, April 23, 1995, as CROP WALK DAY IN ELK RIVER, <br />and do urge the citizens of El River and surrounding communities to <br />participate and support this walk. <br />Henry A.
