These fields are now referred to as
the Oak Knoll fields or park. Part of the original plan that was reviewed and accepted
called for the future construction of the School District public works building in this
vicinity. The School public works building is currently part of the City building and the
original plan called for the School to construct a new facility right next to ours in and
around the railroad trail location.

e

At the School and City joint meeting last January 31, the lease of the City facility by the
School District was extended until 11/1/95. At this time, the School District is planning to
move forward with its construction of a new facility. At this upcoming City Council
meeting, I would like to review with the City Council the general plan from the School
District in order to see if there are any problems with proceeding with this project in
accordance with the original proposal a few years ago. I will have some maps to show the
City Council that outline the general location of the proposed school facility. Additionally,
it is a goal of the City to exchange properties with the School District so that its varsity
field and public works facility are on school property, and all of the youth recreation fields
that the City maintains are on City property. This property exchange makes sense from a
City liability point of view, wherein the City is not maintaining school property and the
School District does not have a facility on City property. Again, the maps I will have
available on Monday night should help explain this situation.

-

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O. Box 490. Elk River, MN 55330. (612) 441-7420.
