The Elk River Fire Department, through a December 1,2006
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources cooperative fire protection agreement, provided the State of
Minnesota with additional resources. The Elk River Fire Department provided one grass fire truck along
with three personnel to assist at the wildland fire in Grand Marais from May 9'h through May 16"'.

The Elk River grass rig was part of Metro Task Force One which included: two Type 1 engines from
Esko and SBM Fire Department, along with three grass rigs of which Anoka, Elk River, and Linwood
were part of. Our firefighters were part of a structural fire protection task force up and down the
Gunflint Trail during the eight days they were deployed along the Trail. Our crew assisted with setting-up
fire pumps, sprinkler systems for cabins, putting out fire hotspots, and in clearing combustible materials
as far away as possible from threatened structures. Our fire crew also assisted in backfires to help divert
the fire away from structures to alleviate threats from existing structures within the threatened area. On
behalf of the City of Elk River and the Elk River Fire Department, I would like to thank Gary Lore, Ryan
Lore, and Michael Schipper for their time and efforts assisting at the Ham Lake Gunflint Trail wildland
fire from May 9'" through May 16'h, 2007.

Financial Impact
None.

Attachments

.
