<br /> <br />City of Elk River <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date <br />Consent April 16, 2007 <br /> <br />Item Number <br /> <br />3.3. <br />Prepared by <br />Lauren Wipper, Human Resource <br />Re resentative <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br />Item Description <br />Authorization to Hire Laborers <br /> <br />Introduction <br />The 2007 budget includes new fulltime Laborer positions for the Street Department, Building <br />Maintenance Division, and Wastewater Treatment Facility. We have completed the recruitment, <br />application, and interviewing process and request Council authorization to hire the following applicants. <br /> <br />Discussion <br />We received approximately 140 applications for these positions. Assistant Street Supervisor Mark <br />Thompson, Building Maintenance Supervisor Gary Lore, Wastewater Chief Operator Gary Leirmoe, and <br />I interviewed nine candidates. After meeting with four of those candidates a second time we are <br />recommending Matt Miske for the Street Department position, Jim LeBrun for the Building Maintenance <br />position, and Dale Eckert for the Wastewater position. Each comes with a varying degree of experience <br />and we feel each will be an excellent fit in the departments to which they have been assigned. They are all <br />anxious to begin work tomorrow morning, April 17 , 2007. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br />Each employee will begin at step A of pay grade 2 which is $12.38 per hour. They will be eligible for any <br />January 1,2008 cost of living increase approved by Council.
