Item 6

MEMORANDUM

TO:

Mayor and City Council

FROM:

Tina Allard, City Clerk

DATE:

April 2, 2007

SUBJECT:

Consider Board/Commission Appointments

Introduction
Originally commission appointments were supposed to be conducted on February 5, 2007
but due to the lack of applications received the Council directed staff to re-advertise for all
the commissions and consider filling the open seats in April.

Information for applicants
Staff liaisons will be in contact with those who have been appointed to provide any
background information and to inform them of when the next commission meetings are
scheduled.

Applicants for multiple commissions
There are three applicants who have requested more than one choice for commission
appointment so you may see there names pop up for more than one commission. If any of
these three applicants are appointed to a commission as we go along with the appointment
process, we will need to remove them from other ballots where their names may be located.

Energy City
Apparendy at one time, Sherburne County appointed two commissioners to represent the
county on Energy City: Rachel Leonard and Arne Engstrom. This came to my attention on
Thursday afternoon. Rachel has submitted an application to be the representative. Both
commissioners will be invited to attend the Energy City meetings but only one
commissioner would be allowed to have voting rights according to our ordinance.

This Commission has historically had 13 members but it can have up to 15 members.
According to city ordinance the two extra appointments would come from energy-related
businesses. The Council should discuss if they want to add up to two more members prior
to voting on the applicants.

S:\Council\City Clerk\Board Commissions\2007\Interviews April 2.doc
