<br /> <br />City of Elk River Item Number <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION 7.7. <br />Agenda Section I Meeting Date Prepared by <br />_Administration January 2, 2007 Bruce A. \\1 est, Fire Chief <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Autllorization to Advertise for Bids for Fire Department 2,000 <br />Gallon Tanker <br /> <br />Introduction <br />On bellalf of the Elk River Fire Department and its Truck Committee, I am requesting Council appro\ral <br />and autllorization to ad'vertise for bids for a Fire Department tanker. -J'he ne"\v purchase "\vill be a 2,000 <br />gallon tanker of "\vhich \vill include a 500 gallon per minute pump, ladders, dump tank, and many other <br />National Fire Protection Association (NFP A) required Fire Department tanker items. The ne\v tanker is <br />scheduled for mid-summer 2007 deli\rery and is part of our 20-year capital improvement plan as a <br />replacelnent of Tanker 1, a 1987 Ford Tanker. This tanker is included in the 2007 budget. <br /> <br />Discussion <br />The Elk Ri\rer Fire Department Truck COlTunittee has spent numerous hours gathering information for a <br />set of specifications for the Fire Department 2,000 gallon tanker. I \vould like to tllank tIle Elk Ri\rer Fire <br />Department Truck Committee for their hard \vork in putting together a set of specifications for this Fire <br />Department tanker. The Truck Committee has also visited the Public \YJorks shop to inspect and drive <br />tlle 'larious cormnercial chassis that are being used on a daily basis at the Public Works shop. <br /> <br />City Attorney Peter Beck has revie\ved tlle Notice of Ad,rertisement for Bid information along \Vitll tile <br />set of tanker specifications. Timelines regarding the bid process for the ne\v tanker have also been <br />discussed ,vith 1\'&. Beck. <br /> <br />Upon audlorization of bids by the Mayor and City Council on January 2,2007 the follo\ving timetable ,vill <br />occur: On January 29, 2007, at 10:00 a.m., bids will be opened at Elk River City Hall <br />~\fter bid opening the Fire Department Tluck COlnmittee shall review any and all bids for their <br />compliance ,vith the published set of specifications. The l\1Iayor and City Council reser'\7e the right to <br />reject any or all bids or any alternates or to hold bids for 45 days; or accept any bid \vhich, in the opinion <br />of the City Council, serves in the best interest of the city; and to \vai,re any minor regularities. It is <br />anticipated that upon acceptance and compliance of a submitted bid by the Elk Ri\rer Fire Department <br />Tluck Committee, I \vill return to the City Council on February 5, 2007 for final appro\ral and a"\varding <br />of the bid for a ne\v Fire Department tanker. <br /> <br />Due to dle length of the tanker specificatiol1s, they ha\re not been included in tlle packet.
