A.( -\.(
( II
rill River

AGENDA ITEM 5.6

MEMORANDUM

TO:

MAYOR & CITY COUN

FROM:

PAT KLAERS, CITY

DATE:

APRIL 27,1994

SUBJECT: 1994 PARK DEDICATION FUNDS

Consistent with the past few years, the Park and Recreation Commission is
requesting the City Council to approve $25,700 worth of expenditures from
the Park Dedication Fund for park improvements throughout the community.
Attached for your review is the motion approved by the Commission at its
March 9, 1994, meeting.

e

The Park Dedication Fund as of 1/1/94 was at approximately $69,000.
Additionally, more revenue is anticipated in 1994. However, expenditures
out of the Park Dedication Fund beyond the request before the Council
tonight includes part of the City's matching requirement for the state grant
associated with the Woodland Trails Park and the improvements that are
scheduled with the City's trail system (i.e., Meadowvale Heights, Hillside
Estates, Mississippi Oaks, Heritage Landing, Orono Parkway and Joplin
Street). Finally, if Mr. Niziolek is successful in his grant application on
behalf of the City, another $70,000 may need to be spent in 1995 and 1996.

For the above stated possible projects, staff has consistently recommended to
the Park and Recreation Commission that we keep our annual improvements
to our neighborhood parks in the $25-$30,000 range. As more funds become
available, we may be able to increase this amount in the future.

Staff recommends approval of the Park and Recreation Commission's
recommendation for the use of $25,700 worth of Park Dedication Funds in
neighborhood parks for improvements in 1994.

e

P.O.
