City of Elk River
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Agenda Section Meeting Date
Consent Au st 7, 2006
Item Description
HigWand Avenue Change Order No. 1 - Sanitary Sewer

Item Number
3.10.~~

Prepared by
Te Maurer, Ci
Reviewed by

Introduction
As directed by the City Council on June 5, 2006 we have worked with Bauerly Brothers, Inc., the
general contractor for the Highland Avenue project to negotiate a change order to add sanitary
sewer coming from the west to service the last few properties along Highland Road.

Discussion
As the City Council will remember, the original design did not provide sanitary sewer service to
the far west end of the HigWand Road project. In order to serve the last few properties, sanitary
sewer will need to be extended from the Cherrywood Hills Addition west of Proctor Avenue
approximately 850 feet to the first high point on Highland Road. At the June 5th meeting, I had
estimated the change order cost to be approximately $85,000. The negotiated price with Bauerly
Brothers, Inc. is approximately $76,500 (flagmen and signing for the crossing of Proctor Avenue
are hourly). In addition, we have added right turn lanes on Highland Road at Jackson Road and
Proctor Avenue, now that small utilities have been located and it has been determined it is
possible to get short right turn lanes in at these areas. This will add approximately $4,500 to the
street cost. Therefore, the total change orde~ amount is $81,000

Financial Impact
The right turn lane portion of the change order, approximately $4,500, is eligible for Municipal
State Aid Funding. The sanitary sewer portion, approximately $76,500, would require additional
funding from the Sewer Fund.

Attachment
None

Action Requested
Approval of Change Order No. 1

Council Action

Motion by _

Second by _

Vote

Follow Up
