CU 93-39

ISSUE

Paul Krause is requesting a conditional use permit to operate a
temporary golf driving range.

LOCATION

Waco Street across from the Pinewood Country Club.
legal description is available at City Hall.

A complete

ANALYSIS

e

Paul Krause, owner of Pinewood Country Club, would like to add
a temporary driving range to his golf course facility. The
site consists of approximately 9 acres of land directly east of
the golf course and Waco Street. The proposed driving range
will consist of fifteen 10 foot tee stalls. Parking for the
driving range will be provided at the Pinewood Country Club.
Mr. Krause will lease the property of the driving range until
the area develops in the future. A copy of the Planning
Commission memo which explains the request in detail is
attached.

PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING

At the December 28, 1993, Planning Commission meeting, some of
the Commissioner's were concerned about pedestrian traffic
crossing Waco Street to get to the driving range. The Planning
Commission requested that staff research the possibility of
signage to be placed along Waco Street warning drivers of the
crosswalk. The Planning Commission also suggested that the
golf course place signage on the golf course and driving range
property warning pedestrians of vehicle traffic. Staff has
talked with Tom Zerwas, Police Chief, and Phil Hals, Street
Superintendent, about crosswalk signage along Waco Street.
Chief Zerwas researched this issue and feels there may be
potential problems with signage for a crosswalk in this
location (i.e., enforcement). Staff will continue to research
the need for crosswalk signs along Waco Street and have the
crosswalk signed, if necessary.

e

P.O.
