However, <br />other mechanical work including duct work for gas furnaces and <br />ventilation systems does not currently require a permit (it is <br />covered under the general building permit). <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Not having a specific permit for this type of work leaves two <br />issues: 1) the contractor doing the work is not signing-off on <br />the permit and; 2) the cost of the time consuming inspections <br />for this type of work are not being covered. The inspection <br />costs are especially important with commercial jobs. State law <br />mandates the maximum permit for mechanical work on a single <br />family home is $100.00. <br /> <br />Staff recommends a permit for all mechanical work be required <br />and the fee be 1% of the valuation of the work (see City permit <br />fee schedule "B"). This recommendation also requires changes <br />to Section 1006 of the Elk River Code of Ordinances entitled <br />"Gas Fitting and Installation Regulations." An ordinance <br />amendment to accomplish this is included with this memo. This <br />amendment does not require Planning Commission review or public <br />hearing. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />P.O.
