Zerwas, Chief of Police i:J ~ <br /> <br />January 14, 1994 {/ <br /> <br />Date: <br /> <br />Police Department <br /> <br />Subject: <br /> <br />HIRING POLICE OFFICERS <br /> <br />This is to inform the City Council that Officer Greg Jones has been <br />offered a job as a trooper with the Minnesota State Patrol. <br />Officer Jones, unfortunately, is expected to accept this position. <br />If he does in fact accept the position, he will be leaving us in <br />late February. <br /> <br />During the past week the police department also had two (2) medical <br />situations that have occurred. Officer Ron Nierenhausen had a <br />freak accident while participating in a department sponsored <br />defensive tactics training course; his Achilles tendon tore while <br />he was attempting to demonstrate a maneuver. This injury required <br />Ron to have surgery on Friday, January 14th, 1994. Ron will be <br />disabled for three (3) to six (6) months. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />We also found out that one of our other officers has an illness <br />that may require significant medical attention over the next <br />several months, possibly longer. <br /> <br />I am, therefore, requesting authorization to hire two (2) officers <br />at the first step on the pay plan to help make up for the <br />anticipated shortage. <br /> <br />If you have any questions, I encourage you to call me prior to the <br />council meeting.
