<br /> <br />ITEM 7.7.D <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />PAT KLAERS, CITY AD~;1~R <br />MARCH 11, 1993\~ <br />CLEANING CONTRACT EXTENSIONS <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />The City Council has inquired about the cleaning of the new <br />facility on a number of occasions. On this issue I have <br />indicated that the City intends to continue using its current <br />cleaning services in the new facility, but that adjustments <br />will have to be made regarding the paYment contract amounts. <br />House b Clean has the City Hall contract and Zerwas Cleaning <br />has the Police Department contract. Both businesses are <br />registered with the State. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The Police Depart~ent area is increasing by more than three <br />times its current size (approx. 2650 square feet to approx. <br />8300 square feet excluding the garage). On the City Hall side, <br />the area to be cleaned is increasing by more than three times <br />(approx. 3500 square feet to approx. 12650 square feet). <br />However, part of the administration area includes rooms that do <br />not need to be cleaned on a daily basis (i.e. Council <br />Chambers). The main City offices, hallway, training room, and <br />lunchroom equals about 10,700 square feet. Both sides of the <br />facility will be cleaneg five days a week. <br /> <br />I have met with Laurie and Chris regarding the cleaning <br />new building and discussed such issues as insurance, <br />cleaning employees, supplies, cleaning area breakdown, <br />contract amount for the cleaning. <br /> <br />of the <br />back up <br />and the <br /> <br />It is believed that ~t will take at least 60 hours per week to <br />clean the facility and this is the equivalent to at least one <br />and one-half full time City employees. Staff is recommending <br />that the City Council ~uthorize $24,600 per year paYments for <br />the two cleaning contracts. (The City currently spends $10,200 <br />annually for cleaning). Staff feels that this is a tremendous <br />buy for the City and recommends that we continue to use the <br />same cleaning services that we currently have and simply extend <br />their contracts with an adjustment in the dollar amounts. We <br />have been, and contin~e to be, very pleased with the quality of <br />cleaning services we have received from Laurie and Chris.
