This is a staff addition, which was approved for the 2006 budget, with a start date of
January 1, 2006. The police department recently completed candidate interviews and the interview panel

chose Andrew Zabee as the number one candidate.

Discussion
The current opening has existed since January 2006. The council has given prior authorization for this
staff addition to the police department in 2006. This position will increase community service officer
coverage in the evenings and weekends, as well as augmenting patrol operations, thus freeing up licensed
officers for priority calls. The position is also intended to increase patrol presence in the City’s growing
parks system.

Financial Impact

Funds for this position have already been budgeted for this year starting in January. The starting salary
for this position will be $12.45 per hour. If approved this candidate would have an expected start date of
April 3rd, creating a net savings of approximately three months salary from the original budgeted amount.

Attachments

None

Action Requested

The police department is seeking council approval to make a job offer to the top candidate, Andrew
Zabee, for the Community Service Officer I position.

Council Action

Motion by Second by Vote

Follow Up
