The
schedule for flushing and a map with the timeline shown in zones has been added to our
website blog section and social media.
• On May 20, gates at Lake Orono Dam were opened for the first time this season to
maintain the lake level. This is unusually late in the season to open the gates for the first
time, this was due to the incoming water flow to Lake Orono being minimal because of
the lack of snowfall and rainfall. Water department staff will continue to check the lake
level at the dam and adjust the gates accordingly throughout the season.
• As described in the PFAS National Primary Drinking Water Regulation (40 CFR Parts 141
and 142), all community public water systems and all non-transient non-community
water systems are required to complete initial monitoring requirements by April 26,
2027. The MDH is helping public water systems meet their initial monitoring
requirements by contracting with WSP USA to collect samples. This round of sampling
was collected on May 19 and although we do not have these test results yet, the results
of all sample testing previously done have shown no detection of per- and
polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), in the Elk River municipal water system.
• Water main valve maintenance work in the Westwood neighborhood, which is part of
the 2025 street rehab project, has been completed.
204
