<br /> <br />City of Elk River <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date <br />Work Session March 13,2006 <br />Item Description <br />Libra Pro' ect: LEED Certification <br /> <br />Item Number <br />5.7.A <br /> <br />Prepared by <br />Bill Maertz, Parks and Recreation Director <br />Reviewed by <br />Lori ohnson, Ci Administrator <br /> <br />Introduction <br />Consider pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification as part of the <br />Elk River Library project. <br /> <br />Discussion <br />The Energy City Commission has requested that the City Council pursue LEED Certification as part of <br />the Library project. LEED is a rating system that evaluates buildings based on energy efficiency, indoor <br />environmental quality, and sustainability (see attached). Among the benefits of going through the LEED <br />certification process are reduced operating costs, enhanced occupant comfort and reduced environmental <br />impact.
