<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />ELK RIVER PARK BOARD <br />CROSSROADS CAFE <br /> <br />May 23, 1977 at 7:40 P.M. <br /> <br />BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Gene Schuldt, Stan Moreland, Ken Nelson. <br /> <br />BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Steve Ostby. <br /> <br />GUESTS: Wayne Becklin. <br /> <br />SWIMMING BEACH OPERATION: Beach will open June 13, 1977 for public swimming. Registration <br />for swimming lessons will be on June 10, 1977. Lesson will start June 20, 1977, and each <br />course will run two weeks. There will be two sessions. Cost is $5.00 per person per <br />session with $15.00 maximum for a family of more than three, including adults. Wayne <br />Becklin requested new hours for beach operation. In the past, hours have been from <br />2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. and from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. On trial basis the evening hours <br />will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. If there are complaints from the public, the hours <br />will revert back to old schedule. Beach sign listing hours will have to be repainted. <br />Wayne Becklin will prepare an article for the newspaper and an ad for the shopper, for two <br />weeks. Doors on the beach house have to be repaired. The diving raft will have to be <br />painted. Torpedo - style buoys have been donated for use at the beach. Same lifeguards <br />as last year. <br /> <br />PARK SHELTER: Jaycees poured concrete slab in park shelter and small areas in horeshoe <br />court on Saturday, May 21, 1977. Bill for concrete will be sent to City Hall. Minutes <br />of September 29, 1977 Park Board meeting shows that Park Board is committed to $800.00 of the <br />cost. <br /> <br />BOAT RAMP: Chairman Gene Schuldt sent a letter to the City Council on May 16, 1977 <br />requesting a clarification on usage of the old boat ramp on Main Street. The matter was <br />considered by the Council at the May 16th meeting and tabled without decision. <br /> <br />SOFTBAI,L DIAMONDS: Ken Nelson reported that two of his crew are dragging and liming the <br />two ball diamonds four days a week, Monday thur Thursday. If there is league play on <br />Fridays, fields will worked on for those specific exceptions. Time is kept to approx. <br />one hour per day. <br /> <br />BLEACHERS, Discussion held on how to replace the bleachers at Derr-Wruepner Field. Pre- <br />built, movable stands cost approx. $8,500.00 to $10,000.00 a section. It may be cheaper <br />to rebuild, using blocks and planking. Stan Moreland will try to get an estimate on materials <br />and labor. <br /> <br />TREES: Ken Nelson reported that a few of the elm trees in Orono Park appear to have wilt <br />There is also a few other open areas which should have some tree coverage. Stan Moreland <br />will obtain some maple, bass, and ash trees and Ken Nelson will have them planted. <br /> <br />Meeting adjourned at 9:10 P.M. <br />
