City of Elk River REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Agenda Section Meeting Date En ineerin Febru 21,2006 Item Description Adopt a Resolution Approving the Plans and Specifications and Ordering the Advertisement for Bids in the Matter of the School Street/High School Parking Lot Signalization Improvement Pro' ect Introduction On September 19, 2005 the City Council adopted Resolution 05-113, Authorizing the Preparation of Plans and Specifications for the School Street/High School Parking Lot Signalization Improvement. These plans have now been completed. Discussion Since the inception of this proposed project, it has been anticipated that the School District would share in half of the cost of the construction. Preliminary discussions have been held with School District officials in the past regarding this concept. In order to get a firm cost with which to get a formal agreement with the School District, it will be necessary to bid the project. Therefore, the City Council is being requested to authorize adoption of a resolution approving the plans and specifications and ordering the advertisement for bids. It is anticipated that bids would be opened on March 28, 2006 and could be presented to the City Council at a meeting in April after discussions with the School District. Financial Impact It is anticipated that the City's share of this project which will be approximately one-half the cost, will be between $75,000 - $100,000.
