Special Joint Meeting of the Elk River EDA <br />Beautification and Public Art Committees <br />Held at the Elk River City Hall <br />Monday, August 14', 2023 <br />Members Present: Deb Hjermstad, Melissa McAlpine, Ryan Hardin, Jennifer Wagner, Sharon Tracy, Dan <br />Tveite <br />Members Absent: Michael Niziolek <br />Staff Present: Josh Mollan, Economic Development Specialist, Brent O'Neil, Economic Development <br />Director <br />I . Call Meeting to Order <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the special joint meeting of the EDA Beautification and Public Art <br />Committees was called to order at 10:16 a.m. by Josh. <br />2. Consider Agenda <br />Moved by Dan and seconded by Ryan to approve the agenda. Motion carried 6-0. <br />3.1 Introductions <br />Each member and staff member introduced themselves to the group and how they have been involved with <br />their respective committees. <br />3.2 Public Art Committee Activities for 2023 <br />Sharon shared details about the public art RFP process and her involvement in the state-wide art <br />community. She also suggested involving the school district again to include an educational aspect regarding <br />the selected artist. <br />Jennifer suggested that staff lead the role in determining funding opportunities as well as using Sharons <br />expertise in grant writing. <br />Brent asked the group if the committees would be willing to merge due to enough overlap between the <br />group's mission and vision. <br />Josh shared that the Central Minnesota Arts Board (CMAB) will host a public art grant with an April 3 <br />application deadline. <br />The committee shared potential target areas/ideas for a public art project: <br />Farmers market, riverfront, Orono Park, FT Center, Woodland Trails, former Kemper wall, top of <br />Pompeii wall, former meat market site, chamber site, along Highway 169, Martie's Farm Services, <br />interactive art, Handke, electrical boxes, round abouts, downtown sign. <br />3.3 2023 Meeting Schedule <br />Josh requested feedback on timing of the joining of the committees. <br />The committee agreed to merge committees now. <br />
