��i <br />Elk River , <br />Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br />TO: <br />FROM: <br />ERMU Commission <br />Dave Ninow —Water Superintendent <br />MEETING DATE: <br />AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br />April 9, 2024 <br />6.1h <br />SUBJECT: <br />Staff Update <br />ACTION REQUESTED: <br />None <br />DISCUSSION: <br />• Delivered six new water meters, installed a Smart Point module, and took curb stop ties. <br />• Completed 20 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples <br />o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria <br />o Bacteriological/Disinfectant Residual Monthly Report submitted to the MDH <br />• Completed 21 routine fluoride samples <br />o All samples met MDH standards <br />o Submitted MDH Fluoride Report <br />• Submitted the Discharge Monitoring Report for the diesel generation plant to the <br />Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. <br />• Completed and submitted the 2023 Water Conservation Report to the DNR. <br />• On March 20 we received a report that water was coming out of the ground close to the <br />gas station car wash at Zane and Main Streets. The water was coming from the service <br />pipe to that property which had developed a leak. We shut the water off and worked <br />with the contractor hired by the property owner to get the pipe repaired and water <br />turned back on. <br />• Our request for assistance from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) with <br />developing a water service line inventory has been approved. The Environmental <br />Protection Agency's (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) require public water <br />systems to complete an inventory of all service connections in their distribution system. <br />The assistance from MDH will cover the costs of our consultant reviewing records and <br />managing inspections to develop an inventory. <br />• Water department staff have been busy working with contractors for Highway 169 <br />Redefine water main work and new commercial water service connections. <br />• We will begin flushing hydrants the week of May 13. Customers will be notified and a <br />map with the zones and dates for flushing will be made public.
