<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />SPECIAL MEETING OF THE ELK RIVER <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />HELD AT THE ELK RIVER CITY HALL TRAINING ROOM <br />TUESDAY, AUGUST 5, 1997 <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Chair Dana Anderson; Commissioners Huberty, Kuester, Olson, <br />Dave Anderson and Westrum <br /> <br />Members Absent: <br /> <br />Commissioner Rolf Anderson and Commissioner Madsen <br /> <br />Staff Present: <br /> <br />Phil Hals, Street/Park Superintendent, Debbie Kleckner, Recording <br />Secretary <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Councilmember Daryl Thompson; Jeff Asfahl, Community <br />Education Director <br /> <br />1. ....... ..COU.MeeHrlcrTOC5fder:... <br /> <br /> <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting of the Elk River Park and <br />Recreation Commission was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Anderson. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Consider 8/5/97 Park & Recreation Commission Aaenda <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER DAVE ANDERSON MOVED TO APPROVE THE AUGUST 5, 1997, PARK <br />& RECREATION AGENDA. COMMISSIONER WESTRUM SECONDED THE MOTION. THE <br />MOTION CARRIED 6-0. <br /> <br />3. Oraanizational Meetina for Park & Recreation Bond Referendum <br /> <br />Commissioner Kuester indicated the Park & Recreation Bond Referendum is <br />scheduled for September 23, 1997. <br /> <br />Chair Dana Anderson reviewed the proposed improvements and projects to be <br />included in the referendum. <br /> <br />Harold Gramstad, representing the Elk River Lions Club, explained that the Lions <br />Club is considering building a youth center in Lion's Park. The City has indicated <br />they may do a matching contribution of $100,000 and this amount has been <br />included in the referendum proposal. <br /> <br />A question was raised regarding how soon the park improvements would be <br />installed if the referendum passes. Phil Hals indicated the money needs to be <br />spent within three years. Phil noted the playground equipment will need to be <br />installed by a contractor but he felt most work will be completed within 2 years. <br />Commissioner Dave Anderson questioned when the youth softball complex at <br />the Cass property would open. Phil indicated the complex would be open by <br />May 1998. <br />
