Updated: August 2020 <br />Request for Action <br />To <br />Parks and Recreation Commission <br />Item Number <br />7.1 <br />Agenda Section <br />Action Item <br />Meeting Date <br />January 11, 2023 <br />Prepared by <br />Warren Ellingworth, Recreation Coordinator <br />Item Description <br />2023 Park Rental Fees <br />Reviewed by <br />Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation Director <br />Reviewed by <br />Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Action Requested <br />Discuss the rental fees for 2023. <br />Approve, by motion, rental use fees. <br />Background/Discussion <br />At the December 8, 2021, Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, Commissioners discussed and approved the <br />updated 2022 shelter and pavilion rental fees. <br />Now that the pavilion is open at Orono Park, staff are noticing a trend with the rentals and are proposing <br />additional changes to what was approved in 2021. <br />Staff recommends changing the daily rate at Shelter #3 (next to the playground and the splash pad) from $60 to <br />$70 for residents and $100 for non-residents. <br />Staff also recommends the removal of the damage deposit at the new Orono Park Pavilion. We have learned that <br />people are hesitant to rent this because of the up-front cost of the damage deposit when they can rent Shelter #3 <br />and not pay a damage deposit. By removing this refundable fee, the city would also save money on credit card <br />refunds and anticipate an increase in rentals. <br />Financial Impact <br />An expected increase in rental revenue. <br />Mission/Policy/Goal <br />The goal of this change is to be proactive and adjust our fee structure based on trends documented by staff to <br />increase rentals and revenue. <br />Attachments <br />Proposed 2023 Parks and Recreation Rental Fees <br />2021 and 2022 Facility Reservation Statistics
