Background/Discussion The City of Elk River Beautification Committee seeks to recognize commercial/industrial site improvements, commercial/industrial upgrades, landscapes, renovations, restorations, and new structures that are architecturally noteworthy. A major criterion is how the project visually enhances the surrounding neighborhood and community. How the business incorporates design, maintenance, color, organization, and creativity within the existing community. Improvements to structures, interior/exterior spaces and the landscaping are important elements for consideration. Three Rivers Montessori converted a bank into an elementary school in 2021. They updated the grounds, added a pollinator garden, and installed a large playground with native trees and plants. They made additions to the existing building and updated outdoor signage and landscape. Salon on Main gutted and remodeled their over 100-year-old building in 2020. They removed three layers of drywall, three ceilings, and four layers of flooring. They installed a new roof, headers for support, drywall, flooring, plumbing, electrical, large back windows, stucco on the rear of the building, and new front and rear doors. Also, rooms were put in for all staff to be more covid safe. Salon on Main finished it off with LED lights and beautiful warm paint colors. The construction started February 2020 and was finished by Kiser Construction August 2020. Toth Farms, Inc. started a restoration on an iconic farm property on the edge of Lake Orono in 2021. The late 1800’s barn was resided, reroofed and renovated to preserve its beauty. Windows were added, landscaping around the building was completed and the interior was cleaned. Multiple storage buildings, sheds, and debris were removed from the farm site. Project completed in 2022.
