j
Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Dave Ninow—Water Superintendent
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
November 12, 2019 6.1e
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• Delivered 13 new water meters.
• Sealed the water meter, installed an encoder receiver transmitter, and took curb stop
ties from 20 water services.
• Completed 15 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples
o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria.
o Bacteriological/Disinfectant Residual Monthly Report submitted to the MDH
• Completed 23 routine fluoride samples
o All samples met MDH standards.
o Submitted MDH Fluoride Report
• The water department completed the annual inspection of the Lake Orono Dam on
October 2. The dam seems to be in satisfactory condition.
• The contractor preforming the restoration work on Auburn Street Water Tower halted
work for the winter on October 29.The temperatures are too low for the final paint
coating to cure properly. They have done most of the structural repairs: sand blasted
the old paint off, and applied a paint primer coating on the surface. They will continue
work on the tower in April of 2020. This tower will remain empty for the season instead
of Johnson Street Tower. Since Johnson Tower has double the water capacity of Auburn
Tower, it will be more prone to freezing due to less water turnover. We are planning to
install a mixer in Johnson tower. The cost of the mixer will be passed on to the
contractor preforming the work at Auburn Street Tower due to them missing the
contract deadline for completing the project.
• Water Operator Eric Jean gave notice that his final day of employment with ERMU will
be November 14. He has accepted a job opportunity in Alaska. The position opening was
posted on November 5 with a closing date of November 22
• The water department has continued to locate and validate existing areas of the
distribution system, along with locating new developments for addition to the map.
ATTACHMENTS:
• October 2018 Pumping by Well
233
