<br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br />Mayor and City Council 4.4 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Consent July 5, 2022 Lauren Wipper, Human Resources Manager <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Hire Part-time Community Service Officer Darren McKernan, Patrol Captain <br />Reviewed by <br />Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Approve, by motion, the hiring of Joseph Reak to the position of part-time community service officer effective <br />July 11, 2022. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />Joseph Reak has been a police reserve officer for the city since February. His background check is complete, and <br />he has passed the physical and psychological testing. We recommend Mr. Reak for a part-time community service <br />officer vacancy. <br /> <br />The part-time Community Service Officer position is intended for students working toward a career in law <br />enforcement. The length of employment is two years and may be extended one year by the police chief. Mr. Reak <br />will be starting his law enforcement education at North Hennepin Community College this fall. <br /> <br />This is a leave benefit earning position and Mr. Reak will start at step A of pay grade 6N.
