Mayor will then step down and present Favor <br />with a certificate of recognition. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />The Mayor for a Day Essay Contest is sponsored by the League of Minnesota Cities. This was the ninth year for <br />the competition, and nearly 300 entries were submitted by 4th, 5th, and 6th graders from all areas of the state. A <br />total of three winners and four honorable mentions were chosen by judges from those entries. <br /> <br />th <br />Favor Ayumbu, a 6 grader from VandenBerge Middle School was recognized with an honorable mention by the <br />League of Minnesota Cities <br /> <br />Students were asked to answer the following prompt: <br /> <br />Cities provide a variety of services and programs that make our lives better, including parks & rec, street maintenance, water and <br />sewer, libraries, police, fire, and more! If you were mayor for a day, what would you do to make one of the services that your city <br />provides even better?
