Background/Discussion Mayor John Dietz submitted an application last month to name the two softball fields at Lion John Weicht Park the John Barth Fields. While the Commission recommended to name the fields by a 3-2 vote at the January meeting, the public notice requirement was not met as outlined in the naming policy. The notice requirement was posted and published in the local paper two separate weekends prior to the February 9 Commission meeting thus meeting the 10 day notice requirement. The naming policy does include a requirement to wait two years for a deceased person before a naming opportunity can be considered. This was also discussed to waive this requirement at the January meeting and passed by a 3-2 vote. This policy requirement will be discussed as agenda item 8.1. Financial Impact The cost to install a new sign as part of the city’s wayfinding program is estimated at $13,000 in addition to installation costs.
