J Elk River Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING TO: FROM: ERMU Commission Dave Ninow—Water Superintendent MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: December 14, 2021 6.1j SUBJECT: Staff Update ACTION REQUESTED: None DISCUSSION: • Delivered thirteen new water meters. • Sealed the water meter, installed an encoder receiver transmitter, and took curb stop ties from eleven water services. • Completed 15 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria o Bacteriological/Disinfectant Residual Monthly Report submitted to the MDH • Completed 19 routine fluoride samples o All samples met MDH standards o Submitted MDH Fluoride Report • The planned routine maintenance and inspection of Well 8 has been completed. The drop pipe, check valve, pump, and motor have been reinstalled. The well is back in service. • A risk and resilience assessment for the Elk River water system has been completed and an emergency response plan was developed. The America's Water Infrastructure Act required this process to be completed by the end of 2021. • We have drained Auburn Street Water Tower for the winter. During winter the tower is subject to ice buildup on top of the water, which is extremely damaging to the structure and paint. We will wash and refill the tower in the spring. • The water operators have started annual maintenance of the water treatment plants. This process includes inspecting and recharging the iron and manganese removal pressure filters. • We have once again placed protective plastic bag on some of the fire hydrants to protect them from corrosion from road salt. • There has not been an agreement reached for the final cost of the County Road 13 water main relocation/insulation work. Staff will continue discussions with the contactor to reach a fair cost to ERMU for the work to be performed.
