Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Thomas Geiser—Operations Director
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
December 14th, 2021 6.1g
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• Staff continues to meet with WSB Engineering and MnDOT for the upcoming Highway
169 Redefine project. Permits have been approved and we are in full construction
mode. We are working with Great River Energy, as they had nine poles along the
highway that need to be moved or replaced and we have three phase overhead lines
attached to them. The last pole was moved on December 7. All underground lines are
installed and energized at 197th and 193rdavenues, as well as School and Main streets.
Crews will tear down overhead infrastructure as needed this winter. We will have to
replace 700 feet of 500 MCM underground line along the ramp that brings Highway 10
westbound to Highway 169 northbound. That will be done in the spring.
• We have been meeting with staff from Sherburne County to plan for work that needs to
be done for the County Road 44 project.
• All the streetlights that had to be removed during the Highway 10 rehabilitation project
are reinstalled and functioning.
• Staff is working on the electric department's budget for 2022, looking at equipment and
materials needed for the developments and projects that are known to be taking place
in 2022.
• I will be participating in interviews over the next couple weeks to fill the journeyman
lineworker and customer service manager positions.
• Staff has had meetings with the City and Arvig about the fiber optic loop system which
will connect Highway 169, Fire Station 3, Main Street, and County Road 12.
• We are working with the City on extending the trail lights along Highway 10 to
eventually go from the bridge to Gary Street. ERMU would be responsible for installing
the pipe and bases.
• Staff is working with the City of Otsego and a developer on bringing power to a
development that is in ERMU's service area but quite some distance from our
infrastructure.
149
