At the July 6, 2021, City Council
meeting a resolution was passed to increase the staffing level to 60 to begin training firefighters for Station #3.
After hiring these 14 candidates, we will have a staff of 51 on-call firefighters.

We received 28 applications and reviewed each for response time requirements. Following, each completed a
firefighter agility test, background, physical, and psychological assessment. We recommend the above 14
candidates for the position of on-call firefighter.

Financial Impact
The 2021 budget includes funds for the seven positions that are currently vacant. Seven of these new hires are not
accounted for in the 2021 budget and costs for uniforms and salary is expected to be about $5,000 for 2021. These
costs can be absorbed within the fire department budget. Costs for 2022 are included in the 2022 budget.

Mission/Policy/Goal
This meets the Councils mission of growing responsibly and meeting the changing needs.

Attachments
N/A

The Elk River Vision
A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional

service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity.
Updated: August 2020
