______________________________________________________________________________

UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING

TO:
ERMU Commission
FROM:
Mike Tietz –Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE:
August 10, 2021
AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
6.1i
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None

DISCUSSION:
• In July, the locators processed 544 locate tickets. These consisted of 10 emergency
tickets, 441 normal tickets, 1 non-excavation ticket, 3 boundary surveys, 71 updated
tickets, 9 cancellations, and 9 locate meets. This resulted in a 19.4% decrease in tickets
from the previous month and an 8.9% decrease from the prior year. I believe last year’s
numbers were inflated due to COVID-19 (people working on home and yard projects)
and that these numbers reflect a normal year.

• Electrical technicians completed 221 service order tasks, updated the power bill,
attended to customer meter/power quality issues and off-peak concerns.

• On July 22, staff ran generators #1, #2, #3 & #4 without any issues. Engine #3 still
produces smoke while running but not nearly as much as before. We are sending in 4
injectors from Engine #3 to be rebuilt so that in the fall we can replace those that we
suspect are failing.

• Mapping department continues to work on implementing mPower Integrator software.
Staff has also been busy using GPS to record locations of our underground facilities
around the power plant and around the system.

• Staff has been getting caught up on some substation property maintenance out at the
North, Waco, and West substations. We have identified a few more projects that will
need attention still this year.

• The substation apparatus technician is preparing to do the 10-year maintenance of our
Station 14-3 transformer load tap changer this fall. In the past, this type of work would
have been performed by a contractor. We also have a project to replace the recloser
control for Breaker #30 on County Road 42 as soon as we get back into cooler weather.
106
