5
Library Services Coordinator Report -Board Meeting-4 2712021
Summer Reading Program is around the corner. We will offer the program both in -person and through
Beanstack this year, with the hope of more participation than last year now that children can come in
the building to sign-up and pick up prizes. We will be doing a generous offering of prizes again this year,
with many books to be given away, thanks to our Friends of the Library donations.
Part of Elk River's SRP plan is to offer a "take home" storytime option each week this summer following
the SRP theme of "Reading Colors Your World". This take home option will include supplies for a simple
craft, and book recommendations that go with our SRP theme. We will be considering a virtual or zoom
storytime option as well.
In addition, in cooperation with Sherburne County Parks and Rec Staff, and due to a grant the County
received from SHIP, we will be offering some story strolls in Sherburne County parks this summer. We
are still in the planning stages with this endeavor, but should be able to give a more complete update at
our next meeting.
Per our Master Gardener contact, the U of M Extension Service continues to restrict any in -person
programs, so at this time, they are not planning to offer the Jr. Master Gardener program this summer.
If that changes, our Master Gardener contact will reach out to Tim Sevcik, with City Grounds, should
they decide to go ahead with the order and placement of the planter boxes in 2021.
Our Locally Growin fundraising campaign wrapped up at the end of March, and we raised approximately
$290, which was close to half of our $750 goal. The money raised will go toward the purchase of
juvenile items for the collection including popular juvenile series books, STEM, Lego and coding items,
and popular juvenile history and biography books. Thanks to all of our patrons who generously
donated!
Staffing at Elk River had stabilized just before the writing of this report. Our two open aide positions
were filled in late January and mid -March. However, we now have an assistant opening due to a
resignation, so we will be accepting applications until April 25 for this part time position.
The lighting project has been completed here at the library. Many thanks to Gary and his staff and the
contractors for making our building brighter and more energy efficient. The City has also installed a new
air filtration system. If you would like more details on how it works, and how it can help us mitigate
viruses, let's invite Gary to fill us in.
Our goals for 2021 continue to focus on access to core services and technology for our distance -learning
students, homeschool families in our community, and other patrons where there may be a service gap.
We want to safely provide services while continuing to work within the limitations of the pandemic
mandates in order to mitigate the virus for our patrons and staff.
\%OFAT RIVER RECd01YAt
BRARY
