E3l
To: Elk River Library Board
CC: Robbie Schake, LSC
From: Ryan McCormick, Patron Services Supervisor
Date: April 16, 2021
Digital Library Updates
In January, we stopped offering Axis 360, an eBook platform. However, we were able to transfer over
1,000 audiobook and 800 eBook titles from Axis 360 into Overdrive, our other main eBook platform.
This process took time, as Overdrive had to work with publishers on licensing agreements, and there
were a handful of titles that did not transfer due to publisher restrictions.
In February, we began offering access to Creativebug, an online database featuring over 1,000 arts and
craft classes taught by expert instructors. Courses include jewelry making, quilting, design, kids'
activities, and many more.
At the end of March, our Lynda.com service was updated to the Linkedln Learning platform. Linkedln
Learning will provide twice the amount of professional development courses in six languages, and
patron learning history in Lynda will carry over to the new platform. Users will not need to have a
Linkedln account to access this service.
Summer Reading Program
Public Libraries have been offering Summer Reading Programs since the early 1970s. They are
designed to keep kids reading, and prevent "summer slide." This year's theme is "Reading
Colors Your World," and the program will run from June 7th-August 7th. Children and their
families may participate online, or in -person. Library staff is currently finalizing details, including
planning programming opportunities such as Take and Make activities, Story Strolls, and passive
programs.
Legacy Programming
Legacy programming is artistic, cultural, and historical programming funded by the state of Minnesota.
Most of this programming was canceled last year, but we are starting to bring it back through regional,
virtual events. Recent offerings include presentations on Minnesota's state parks, a macrame
workshop, and a class on beaded earrings.
