5.La
Raingarden Update
Attached is an aerial photo showing the location for where the Master Gardeners and I discussed
placing the planter boxes for their summer program. The Master Gardeners are working on getting
these raised planters ordered and delivered.
Regarding the parking lot, the Master Gardeners were not very helpful in determining plant species
for the rain garden. Based on the discussion from the last Library Board meeting, we discussed
utilizing ornamental grasses and some native wildflowers to dress up the rain garden. Species we
will utilize include:
Little Bluestein (grass)
Switchgrass
Prairie Dropseed (grass)
Butterfly Milkweed (flower)
Prairie Blazing Star (flower)
These plants will be ordered once we have the ok from the Library Board with the intent to begin
planting around the middle of May. With the city's contribution to the planter boxes and plant
materials and mulch, we have a budget of $3,000.
In addition, when the landscaping work is conducted, there was a request from the Library Board to
move the boulders in this rain garden back away from the curbs; this will take place at the same time
as the rest of the landscaping.
Thanks,
Tim
