<br />RESOLUTION 86-77 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ELK RIVER <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE OF <br />HANDKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HEAD CUSTODIAN, TERRY ZERWAS AND <br />OTHER PARTIES INVOLVED DURING THE <br />NATURAL GAS LINE LEAK CRISES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on Friday, October 3, 1986 a natural gas line was <br />ruptured during the construction of a water line near <br />Handke Elementary School in Elk River; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the natural gas line rupture created an emergency <br />situation with eminent danger of an explosion; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Handke Elementary School Head Custodian, Terry Zerwas, <br />took quick and decisive action in helping to notify the <br />school authorities of the emergency and exposed himself <br />to possible danger by shutting off the boiler system <br />and extinguishing pilot lights in the kitchen stoves in <br />an effort to reduce the possibility of an explosion. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Elk River City <br />Council does hereby commend Handke Elementary School <br />Head Custodian, Terry Zerwas for his good judgement, <br />quick action and bravery in helping to eliminate the <br />potential disaster caused by the natural gas line <br />rupture on Friday, October 3, 1986; and, <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Elk River City Council <br />recognized the outstanding performance of the School <br />Staff in the evacuation of students and the maintenance <br />of order in a crises situation; and, <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Elk River City Council <br />acknowledge the outstanding performance and quick action <br />of the Elk River Volunteer Fire Department in responding <br />to ruptured natural gas line crises. <br /> <br />Passed and adopted by the Elk River City Council this 20th day of <br />October, 1986. <br /> <br />c2 " <br />. ____~ . .' .7 .___. // 1 <br />~ 'c /' // --> / , ,; .: <br />,c. -':/: . // <br />~<<f~_4~~-~1' <br /> <br />Richard Hinkle, Mayor <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />. ~/??);P~ <br /> <br />Patrick D.
