UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:FROM:
ERMU Commission Michelle Canterbury– Executive Administrative Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
March 9, 2021 4.1
SUBJECT:
Annual Commissioner Orientation
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
BACKGROUND:
With Commission Policy G.2d – Commission Member Role, Responsibilities, and Orientation,
the Commission describes the role and responsibilitiesof ERMU Commission members when
acting in their capacity as a Commission in accordance with applicable law. The Commission
also establishes its expectations for the orientation of new Commission members.

As stated in the policy “The ERMU Commission is committed to excellent governance. This
requires that individual Commissioners be well-informed about ERMU, its customers and
stakeholders, the utility business, prudent financial management, and the Commission’s own
governance structure and processes.” Consistent with this commitment and Commission
policies, an annual orientation program for new and existing Commission members was
implemented in 2018.

Although we have no new Commission members in 2021, this year’s annual orientation will
offer seasoned Commissioners the opportunity to review commission policy, learn more about
parliamentary procedure, and make updates to their commission policy manual and reference
guide.

COMMISSIONER ORIENTATION AGENDA:

1. Review Commission Policy - G.3a - Controlling Authority

2. Introduction to Understanding Basic Motions

3.
