UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:FROM:
ERMU Commission Mike Tietz –Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
January 12, 2021 6.1i
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• In December, the locators processed 196 locate tickets. These consisted of 1 emergency
ticket, 155 normal tickets, 3 non-excavation tickets, 23 updated tickets, 3 cancellations,
4 boundary surveys and 7 locate meets. This resulted in a 41.5% decrease of tickets
from the previous month and a 108.5% increase over the prior year. Ultimately, this was
our busiest locate year on record with a total of 5188 tickets being processed. The
locators continue to GPS and validate data for our electric maps.

• Electrical Technicians completed 187 service order tasks, updated the power bill,
performed weekly substation checks, attended to customer meter issues and off-peak
concerns.

• On December 17, staff ran generators #1, #2 & #4 and used city water to cool the
generators again without any issues. We will continue to use city water during the
winter months until Lake Orono is returned to normal levels.

• Mapping department has completed the establishment of meter/service points for GIS
and staff has updated CIS with this new location data. Staff has been working with
mPower to clean up data and build the parent/child relationships within the GIS
network model in preparation for the implementation of Integrator in January 2021. The
planned roll-out is tentatively scheduled for the week of January 18.

• We posted for the Substation Apparatus Technician position on December 31 and will
have it open for 4 weeks. I am hopeful that we can get this position filled by March 1.

• In preparation for a future substation, which will be needed to feed development in the
southeast part of town along the Highway 10 corridor, I have been exploring land option
sites that would suit our needs. This substation would also provide backfeed capabilities
that could potentially be utilized during the Highway 169 Redefine project. We will be
scheduling a closed meeting in the future to further discuss this land purchase.
______________________________________________________________________________
Page 1 of 1
107
