UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:FROM:
ERMU Commission Tom Sagstetter – Conservation & Key Accounts Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
October 13, 20206.1e
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
In the last 30 days, the level two electric vehicle charger located downtown had 14
sessions and provided customers with 62 kWh of green energy. The DC fast charger at
the Coborn’s fuel station had 8 sessions and provided155kWh. The charger in the
ERMU/City Hall parking lot had 17 sessions and provided customers with 224kWh.
There was a total of 39 charging sessions and 441 kWh of energy provided over the last
30 days.

The Hometown WindPower Turbine construction and painting is complete. The City of
Elk River and MMPA decals will be applied to the nacelle after the Planning Commission
and City Council approve an ordinance change to allow for that to happen.

The LED bulb and newsletter promotion is wrapping up. ERMU has had an additional
583 customers sign up to receive the monthly energy efficiency newsletter, The
Connector. The 2,332 LED bulbs that were distributed to the new participants will save
an estimated 105,000 kWh per year (or $12,661 on residential bills).

Staff is working with an Energy City Commissioner to get the solar photovoltaic shelter
built. The solar array that will be installed on the shelter building was tested on October
6. The panels, inverters, and charge control systems worked perfectly. The two deep
cycle batteries are not able to take a charge and will have to be replaced once the
shelter is finished. A local architect is working on diagrams for the structure and the
Energy City Commission is hoping to bring the design back to the Parks and Recreation
Commission in November for final approval of the structure and locating it at Orono
Park.
______________________________________________________________________________
Page 1 of 1
75
