UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:FROM:
ERMU Commission Theresa Slominski –General Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
October 13, 20206.1a
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
TheBoard of Directors of the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA) met virtually
on September 22, 2020. Both Commissioner Mary Stewart and I were in attendance.
One of our Dashboard Initiatives is Future Leader Training (Theme 2:4) and we are
taking an organization-wide approach for all non-management employees to start. The
facilitator is Kent Myers, the same individual who is facilitating the MMUA Leadership
Academy. We had the first of six training sessions entitled Everyday Leadership on
Wednesday, October 7 and it seemed to be well received. Managers are given the
presentation overview to be able to encourage and develop employees in between the
sessions. The first session topic was having perspective on how we can all influence
those around us, both negatively and positively, no matter our position in the
organization. The challenge put forth to everyone was to seek ways to positively impact
someone else’s day, every day. The next session will be December 9, 2020.

MMUA held their first Municipal Utilities Action Fund (MUAF) event on October 6, 2020.
It was a virtual event with guest speaker Todd Rapp providing his insight into possible
outcomes of the 2020 elections. MUAF is funding available for the MMUA Government
Relations Team to support candidates with a strong history supporting public power and
municipal utilities.

An offer has been made and accepted for our HR Generalist position, with an
anticipated start date of October 26.

______________________________________________________________________________
Page 1 of 1
72
