<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />February 4, 1963 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Elk River Village Council was held at the village hall on Feb 4, 1963. <br />Members present Mayor Johnson, Norris, Larson, Briggs. Meyer was absent. The meeting was celled <br />to order by Mayor Johnson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />Les Derr brought up the matter of sewer for Westholden and Stuefen. It has not yet been decided <br />how this can be done. <br /> <br />The question was asked was asked if the village will plow out an access road past Harry Kreuser’s <br />place between Xenia Ave and the Lake. The Council will not have this plowed out until it has been <br />dedicated to the village for a street. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Larson and seconded by Norris to advertise for bids for the sale of the <br />school property in Upper Town. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Motion by Briggs and seconded by Larson to renew on and off beer license of D.P. Christian. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />Herb Greupner, representing the Park Board offered to donate a used lawn mower to the village and <br />a place to keep it provided it could be traded for a new one for use of the park board the ball park. <br />Nothing further was done about it at this meeting. <br /> <br />Representative of the Bar Tenders Union were present, Daniel Jacobobski, attorney, and Fay <br />Frawley, business representative. They proposed to have salaries of bar tenders increased about 9 ¾ <br />cents per hour and waitresses about 5 ½ cents per hour for the first year. Also better health, welfare <br />and sick benefits. <br /> <br />They will have contracts drawn up for consideration by the council. <br /> <br />Mr. Kent Halen was present. He gave a short talk about the possibility of improving the Mississippi <br />River for boating and a possible boat landing. <br /> <br />Trustee Larson has been looking up the matter of new windows in the creamery building as the old <br />windows are rotted out and may cause damage to the building and fixtures in the Liquor Store. A <br />motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Norris to share the expense of new windows with the <br />Power and Light Commission. Motion carried. <br /> <br />The clerk was asked to write Howard Fritz regarding his garbage truck as the papers are being blown <br />around and causing a nuisance. <br /> <br />The salary of Lester Derr was changed so that he is to received a salary of $465.00 per month plus <br />an allowance of $20.00 per month for car expense. <br /> <br />Oliver Micheau’s salary was raised to $375.00 per month. <br /> <br /> <br />
