<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />January 7, 1963 <br /> <br />The regular monthly meeting of the Elk River Village Council was held at the Village Hall. All <br />members were present. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Johnson. The minutes of the last <br />meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Johnson and second by Norris, August Meyer was appointed acting mayor in the <br />absence of Mayor Johnson. Carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Johnson and seconded by Larson to appoint Harry Dreissig as Fire Chief for <br />the coming year. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Motion by Johnson and second by Norris to appoint Otis Nickerson on the Power and Light <br />Commission to fill vacancy caused by the resignation of Joseph Bailey. Carried. <br /> <br />Results of the December Village election: Donald Norris – Trustee; H.A. Briggs, Clerk; Stuart <br />Mapson, Assessor; Morris Wilson, Justice of the Peace; Oliver Micheau, Constable. <br /> <br />Mr. Robert Broas, representing the N.W. Bell Telephone Co. met with the council. He explained <br />how Fire calls will be handled when the new dial system is in operation. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Larson and seconded by Briggs to accept the system offered by the <br />Telephone CO. Carried. <br /> <br />Lawrence Westholter and Hugo Steuffes were present. They would like sewer and water at their <br />place on Industrial Road. The matter will have to be looked into as to how this can be done. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Meyer and second by Norris it was decided to ask for bids for the school property <br />in Upper Town. The Clerk was asked to write Archie Larson and Jordan Odegard asking for an <br />estimate of the probably market value of these lots. <br /> <br />Motion by Briggs and second by Larson to renew off sale beer license of George Dietz. Carried. <br /> <br />The clerk was asked to write the N.P. Ry Co that upon advice of the village attorney the council has <br />tabled the matter of the use of part of Railroad Drive. <br /> <br />The following bills were approved and ordered paid: <br />Elk River Utilities – sewer 131.73 <br />N. Central Pub Service – gas 91.63 <br />Minn Equipment CO – 370.00 <br />N.W. Bell – phone sewer 38.59 <br />Andys Electric – service 2.53 <br />Ind. Hardsurface – repairs 12.00 <br />George Moos – police 80.00 <br />Lee Bishop – election board 12.00 <br />Florence Cornelius – election board 12.00 <br /> <br />
