<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />January 2, 1962 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Elk River Council was held at the Village Hall on Jan 2, 1962 with all <br />members present. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Johnson. The minutes of the last <br />meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />The Star News agreed to publish the Zoning Ordinance at a cost of $225.00. <br /> <br />The Clerk reported on the recent village election. The following were elected: <br />Mayor – H.L. Johnson <br />Trustee – August Meyer <br />Treasurer – J.C. Odegard <br /> <br />Justice of the Peace – Wm R Kittridge <br /> <br />Mr. Rosbalt is giving up his license for selling beer at the Main St Tap. Mr. John Olson says he <br />would like to operate the place under Rosbalt’s license. The matter was postponed until the Council <br />hears further from Rosbalt. <br /> <br />Mr. Oscar Jones was present. He asked about the zoning ordinance. He would like to build a station <br />and possibly a motel and restaurant on Highway No. 10 just west of Vernon Ave. Nothing further <br />can be done until the zoning ordinance is published. <br /> <br />The Council agreed to some adjustment in Oliver Micheau’s salary. He may take over some work as <br />pumper or some sewer work at the plant. Details will be worked out later. <br /> <br />A.E. Balow’s salary as manager of the Municipal Liquor Store is to be adjusted also he to receive <br />$475.00 per month and do some book work now done by Mr. Becklin, accountant. Final details will <br />be worked out later. <br /> <br />Arthur Barnier salary was raised from $1.25 per hour to $1.50 per hour. <br /> <br />A letter was received from Geo Moos asking for a raise in salary. The matter was tabled for the <br />present. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Kemper and seconded by Larson to appoint Harry Dreissig as Fire Chief for <br />the coming year. Carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Larson and seconded by Kemper to appoint August Meyer as Acting Mayor <br />in the absence of Mayor Johnson. Carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Briggs that John E. MacGibbon be designated as <br />village attorney for the year 1962 and that such employment be on the same basis as in 1961 unless <br />modified by further action of the council.
