<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />May 4, 1959 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Elk River Village Council was held at the Village Hall on May 4, 1959 <br />with all members present. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Johnson. The minutes of the <br />last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />There was discussion regarding making a parking lot of the down town park. A motion was made by <br />Kemper and seconded by Bergeson to make a parking lot in the park reserving the North end and <br />having some shrubbery and flower pots along the edge. Motion carried all voting in favor. <br /> <br />Fire Chief Harry Dreissig having recovered from his recent illness. A motion was made by Briggs <br />and seconded by Meyer re-established Harry Dreissig as Fire Chief with Herbert Greupner Asst. <br />Carried. <br /> <br />Archie Larson was present. He gave the Village a check for $42.32 from the girl schouts to be used <br />toward building a fire place at the new park. <br /> <br />Walter L. Johnson introduced Jerald Weber who is making applications for an on and off beer <br />license in the location now occupied by Mr. Johnson. <br /> <br />A letter was received and placed on file from Russell Sass asking that his property be zoned as <br />commercial. The letter was placed on file. <br /> <br />County engineer Nelson was present. He told the Council that the County has several thousand <br />dollars allotted to street work in the Village. A committee was appointed to meet with the <br />Commissioners to see if Elk River could get some money for street improvements. <br /> <br />Jim Shiff asked about a new road on his property. The matter will be investigated. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Bergeson that the Council go on record as favoring <br />day-light saving time. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Briggs and a second by Kemper salary of Oliver Nickerson was raised to $330.00 <br />per month to start May 1. <br /> <br />Everett Floodman was present and inquired about a bill for fire calls for Livonia Township. The <br />Council agreed to allow a small discount on the bill. <br /> <br />Lester Derr suggested that the Village needed an assistant in Connection with Civil defense also the <br />need of tennis courts at the park. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Bergeson and seconded by Bergeson and seconded by Briggs to raise Lester <br />Derr’s salary to $440.00 a month.
