<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />May 7, 1956 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Elk River Village Council was held at the Municipal Building on May 7, <br />1956 with all members were present. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Schwartz. The <br />minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Dow that the red flasher at Princeton and Main <br />st <br />Streets be discontinued beginning June 1. Motion carried. The clerk was instructed to place notice <br />in Star News. <br /> <br />There was a discussion regarding street work to do this year. Some work is planned on street <br />between Bickmans and no. 10. Also Mrs. Hilda Dyplin would like a street laid out on her property <br />near Walkers Addition. The Council asked Lester Derr to make survey of streets. Also make <br />measurements of Village Park with the possibility of cutting off part of park on west side to widen <br />the street. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Dow to hire a life guard for the swimming pool with <br />Red Cross qualifications. Motion carried <br /> <br />August Leider was present and asked for a raise in wages. After some discussion a motion was made <br />by Meyer and seconded by Bailey to leave wages as they are. Roll call note resulted in a tie. Mayor <br />Schwartz voted for the motion and it carried. <br /> <br />The Clerk was asked to have Village attorney, Mac Gibbon prepare an ordinance regulating <br />installation of gas furnaces. Fee is to be $5.00. $1.00 to go to the Village and $4.00 to the inspector. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Bailey that the Village appropriate $36.00 for the <br />purpose of sending two school patrol pupils to Camp Ripley to the School Patrol School. This to be <br />with the approved of the Village attorney. Motion Carried. <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed and ordered paid: <br /> <br />Fire Department – Fires $588.00 <br />Kemper Drug – Elmer Peterson $9.05 <br />Zella M. Page – Books $36.59 <br />Board of Education – Music and Recreation $750.00 <br />Elk River Imp. Co – Service $9.00 <br />Marshall Wells – Mdse $4.39 <br />Elk River Mch. Shop – Repairs $3.60 <br />Miller-Davis Co. – Mdse $1.38 <br />Elk River Mch. Shop – Repairs $60.50 <br />Les. Derr and Harry Dreissig – Fire School $41.00 <br />Carole Dwyer – Asst. $4.50 <br />Star News – Blanks $17.40 <br />John E. MacGibbon – Services $11.00 <br />Farm Bureau – Gas $1.00 <br />Dale Kramer – Janitor $5.00 <br />Big Lake Gravel – Sand and Rock $74.25 <br /> <br />
