<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />August 1, 1955 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Aug 1, 1955. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> Edward Schwartz, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. <br />Briggs, Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by the Mayor Schwartz. The minutes of the last meeting were read <br />and approved. <br /> <br />Manager Balow of the Municipal Liquor Store was present. There was discussion regarding signs for <br />the Liquor Store. A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Dow to look into the matter and <br />act on the recommendation of the Liquor Committee. The motion carried. All voting in favor. <br /> <br />Motion by Dow and seconded by Bailey to renew service agreement with National Cash Register <br />Co. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Mr. E.A. Westman, Engineer of Anoka Minn introduced himself to the council. He said he would <br />be available if needed. <br /> <br />Henry Engelke and Bernard Fiero were present. They asked for some relief for Mr. Fiero as he had <br />been sick and unable to work. Motion by Bailey and second by Meyer that the village furnish <br />groceries on weekly basis if necessary. Carried. <br /> <br />As Mayor Schwartz expected to be away from the Sept. meeting he appointed Dan Bailey as acting <br />mayor for the next meeting which will be Sept 6 as Monday Sept 5 is Labor Day. <br /> <br />Alfred Martin had a bill before the council for damage to his car on account of road hazard on <br />Nowthen Road. However, the bill was right on motion by Bailey and second by Briggs. <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed and ordered paid: <br />H.R. Caley – rope 11.25 <br />E.R. Lmbr Co – mdse 2.70 <br />Dares – bulbs .87 <br />Central Lmbr Co – lumber 2.10 <br />Star News – printing 3.60 <br />Oswald Pub Co – justice blanks 11.25 <br />Rosenwald Cooper Co – signs 21.69 <br />Farm Bureau – gas and parts 21.35 <br />Farm Bureau – gas and oil 20.58 <br />George Moos – police 128.85 <br />E.R. Machine Shop – repairs 21.75 <br />W.M. Hastings Jr – life guard 80.00 <br />Jerry Bergeson – life guard 35.00 <br />Kemper Drug – mdse 5.37 <br /> <br />
