<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />July 6, 1954 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on July 6, 1954. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> Edward Schwartz, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. <br />Briggs, Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Schwartz. The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. <br /> <br />Robert Hastings representing the Library Board was present and asked if something could be done <br />about some sort of cooling system for the library. The Council agreed to investigate the matter. <br /> <br />Gust Soderberg and delegation were present and made complaint about objectionable soot and dust <br />from the R.E.A. Plant. The mayor agreed to write Mr. Walters of the R.E.A. in regard to having <br />something done. <br /> <br />Kendall Houlton met with the Council and said he thought this assessment on his home was too <br />high. The village assessor had lowered the valuation from what it was last year and the Equalization <br />board had raised it again. After considerable discussion and comparison with other village homes a <br />motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Briggs to put the valuation back where it had been <br />placed by the village assessor. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Joe Schwab and Clarence Kramer appeared again before the Council and asked for a street light <br />between Schwabs Corner and the highway. The Council asked Richard Halter to study the situation <br />over and see if something can be done. <br /> <br />A petition was presented signed by Edith Blocker and Clifford Peterson asking for an extension of <br />the sewer to Clifford Peterson’s property. The Council agreed to put it in provided the expense is <br />taken care of by the property owners. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Meyer to approve transfer of $2000.00 from the <br />Liquor Fund to the General Fund. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Briggs and second by Dow Council voted to send a Fire Department unit to the <br />Crystal, Minn. celebration. <br /> <br />The matter of water fluoridation was brought up but was tabled for the present. <br /> <br />Stanley Wheaton presented an insurance survey and there was discussion on it. <br /> <br />The following bills were approved and ordered paid: <br />Miller-Davis Co – village checks 14.90 <br />Central Lmbr Co – pool supplies 2.32 <br />Kemper Drug – pool supplies 4.72 <br /> <br />
